The Orangery was built in 1723 as a winter store for Herrenhausen`s orange trees and other frost-sensitive tub plants. The oldest tub plant goes back that far - over 350-year-old pomegranate tree has blossomed every year on the Orangery wall. The neoclassical facade was added almost a century later by the court architext of works Georg Ludwig Laves. Since the 1970s the long building has been used as an excellent venue for festivities, concerts and exhibitions.
