Roth was content manager for the exhibition area at the EXPO 2000 in Hanover, general director of the art collection Staatliche Kunstsammlungen in Dresden from 2001 to 2011 and was made honorary professor for cultural management at the Technische Universität (TU) Dresden in 2003.
He is a member of a variety of high-ranking councils and advisory boards within the field of culture and museums, for example on the board of trustees for the British Council.
