Mozart's fragment is reframed by a new oeuvre with the Japanese title „Kenge (Hitotsu no Kotae)“, which was written by the South-African composer Richard van Schoor especially for this occassion. Van Schoor approaches the enigmatic riddles posed by Mozart's fascinating Fragment using Zen-Buddhism as a point of departure.
Christof Nel, a well-established figure on major theatre and opera house stages, utilises the Herrenhausen Gallery for the second time in collaboration with Thomas Goerge for a spatial project going beyond the traditional proscenium stage format. The audience is invited to embark on a sentient journey touching on abandonment, death, the moments of angst in Mozart’s composition and finally, an understanding that life is more powerful than death. The glorious voices of the Tölzer Knabenchor and the unique timbres of the countertenors Valer Sabadus and Terry Wey lead the way towards light and redemption.
